  • Portugal and France remain the main commercial partners of the Spanish companies of the wood.
  • The fiber board, particle board and plywood products are exported to Spain.
Meanwhile, imports have fallen by 6.1%, to 759.8 million euros in purchases abroad.
  • CONFEMADERA features wood construction and future strategic direction for the sector.
  • The Spanish Confederation of Wood (CONFEMADERA) has released today at a press conference in Vitoria the results of foreign trade in wood products (excluding furniture) for the first seven months of 2011, yielding a figure of 668, 5 million euros in sales abroad sector. This is an increase of 19.1% over the same period in 2010 in exports, which have been led by Galicia, in regard to more export autonomy.Although in absolute import exceeds export, it should be noted that in the chapter on foreign purchases included wood as raw material sectors such as furniture.
Galicia Autonomous Region remains the leader in exports of wood, with 220.9 million euros, a rise of 22.6% over the first seven months of 2010, followed by Catalonia with 96.1 million euros and 26.2% increase, Valencia (91.7 million €, +11.5%) and Castilla y León (55.5 million €, +0.3%).
Wood products continue to have Spanish as the main target the EU and, within it, are the neighboring Portugal and France the first recipients of our products. Thus Portugal, with 164.6 million euros, is at the head buyers of Spanish manufactures of wood, followed by France with 125.6 million and the United Kingdom with 59.8 million euros.
The fiberboard products are exported, with 135.1 million euros in sales during the first seven months of the year, followed by particle board (95 million €) and plywood, veneer and laminated (87.7 million €).
According to Francisco Huidobro, President of CONFEMADERA, the success of Spanish exports of wood products, with an increase of 19% during the first seven months of the year, show the momentum from the Confederation is being given to activities internationalization and the redoubled efforts of entrepreneurs increase their presence abroad and thereby address the weak domestic demand. The Export Sector Plan Articles of Wood is funded by the Government of Spain through the Spanish Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX).
    Imports
By regions, Catalonia leads imports of wood products, with € 159.3 million in purchases from abroad and a decrease of 8.3% over the previous year. Here are placed Valencia (127 million €, -7.5%) and Madrid (98.9 million €, -8.9%).
As for the origin of imports of wood products, Portugal returns to position itself as a leading supplier of our country, with € 124.1 million, followed by France with € 105.7 million, and Germany (71.4 million €).
Regarding the origin of regional imports of wood products (excluding furniture), France with 10.5 million euros, China, with 3.9 million euros, Germany (3.8 million €) and Austria (3.1 € million) top the list.

Products sector of the wood exported from the Basque country between January and July 2011 were the plywood (12.4 million €), particle boards (€ 9.4 million), other articles of wood (3 3 million €), and densified wood in blocks, plates, strips or profile (2.7 million €).
    Basque Autonomy sixth most export
The Basque Country is in the first seven months of the year as the sixth most export Autonomy wood industry (excluding furniture), with 35.7 million in foreign sales and an increase of 49.3% over the same period 2010.As for imports of wood products in the community, there were 38.1 million euros, down 13.1% over the previous year.
Timber construction sector as a strategic line
These results consolidate sectoral trade internationalization as a strategic line for the Spanish industry of wood, along with the construction.Aware of this, through the project CONFEMADERA Building with Wood, has spent years developing activities aimed at architects, construction engineers and users in general, in order to provide guidelines and recommendations for proper timber construction in accordance with the regulations Spanish...) And, in general, provide all necessary technical documentation for building with wood teach and demonstrate the environmental values of timber construction.) And discard fears and misconceptions about it.
The commitment to sustainability and the growing environmental awareness of society have become a new stimulus to the wood, which can prove, irrefutably, the ecological and recyclable. At first, efforts have focused on the preparation of documents for the implementation of the Technical Building Code (CTE) technical papers on aspects not covered in the CTE (wood-concrete composite floors, roofs,.In fact, in several European countries in promoting the use of wood in construction is part of the national strategy to reduce CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, because, during training, it absorbs carbon dioxide in processing, transport and installation, minimal amounts of energy consumed.
From the structural point of view, wood is a light material with a high ratio between strength and weight similar to that of steel, but higher-in the case of traction-that of the concrete, and has a high capacity for absorb energy, making wooden structures effectively withstand earthquakes and impact loads.Result of this work is the Guide to Building with Wood, the first that includes the different works on wood products so far in connection with the CTE whose aim is to give designers all the necessary information on the items made from this material or products derived from (durability, fire safety, unions, etc..
In line with enhancing the role of wood in building the organization is framed with wood Rehabilitation Course, developed in collaboration with the College of Architects of Valencia and addressed to unemployed architects, to be held this fall, this time with to promote the conservation of wood in the rehabilitation of buildings or replaced by new wooden elements consistent with the objectives of a more sustainable building.
Among other advantages in building applications, emphasizes its adaptability: saves big lights, opening big holes, adaptation to the environment and almost any style and design, with a huge variety of textures, shapes and colors. And its light weight and easy adjustment at work, allowing wooden structures reduce installation times compared to other materials.
Wood is very present in our lives, but often their use has been hampered by misconceptions which, fortunately for everyone and as we go along in the educational field, are gradually falling, and now is positioning itself as a the best materials from all viewpoints.
Because a design, and on-site treatment correct wood construction solutions can be very durable.
Recently, the European Commission has developed the document Roadmap to a Resource Efficient Europe, a roadmap developed with the aim of transforming the European economy in a sustainable economy by 2050, including inter alia the promotion and sustainable use of wood in construction.
This is one of the main claims CONFEMADERA, through the project Building with Wood, is suing within the framework of the European Roadmap Wood developed by the European wood employer CEI-Bois.One need only observe the numerous works with wood, with hundreds of years old on their backs, have survived to this day in perfect condition, as the pillars on which Venice sits.
In this respect the European Commission requires by 2020 that the renovation and construction of buildings and infrastructure are made with high levels of resource efficiency, for which incentives will be implemented to reward efficient buildings and promote the sustainable use wood in construction, since it is the only material that helps mitigate climate change effects in their training because it absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and processing, transport and installation, minimal amounts of energy consumed.
In the road map, submitted to the European Council, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions, it is stated that a better use of the building in the European Union would affect 42% reduction of total consumption energy used, 35% of greenhouse gases and more than 50% of the extracted materials.
