Spanish exports of wood products increased by 19.1% by July 2011
- These data (excluding furniture sub-sector) put the Basque Country as the sixth exporting region, with 35.7 million in foreign sales, 49.3% more than the same period last year.
- Portugal and France remain the main commercial partners of the Spanish companies of the wood.
- The fiber board, particle board and plywood products are exported to Spain.
Meanwhile, imports have fallen by 6.1%, to 759.8 million euros in purchases abroad. CONFEMADERA features wood construction and future strategic direction for the sector.
The Spanish Confederation of Wood (CONFEMADERA) has released today at a press conference in Vitoria the results of foreign trade in wood products (excluding furniture) for the first seven months of 2011, yielding a figure of 668, 5 million euros in sales abroad sector.This is an increase of 19.1% over the same period in 2010 in exports, which have been led by Galicia, in regard to more export autonomy.Although in absolute import exceeds export, it should be noted that in the chapter on foreign purchases included wood as raw material sectors such as furniture.
Galicia Autonomous Region remains the leader in exports of wood, with 220.9 million euros, a rise of 22.6% over the first seven months of 2010, followed by Catalonia with 96.1 million euros and 26.2% increase, Valencia (91.7 million €, +11.5%) and Castilla y León (55.5 million €, +0.3%).
Wood products continue to have Spanish as the main target the EU and, within it, are the neighboring Portugal and France the first recipients of our products.Thus Portugal, with 164.6 million euros, is at the head buyers of Spanish manufactures of wood, followed by France with 125.6 million and the United Kingdom with 59.8 million euros.
The fiberboard products are exported, with 135.1 million euros in sales during the first seven months of the year, followed by particle board (95 million €) and plywood, veneer and laminated (87.7 million €).
According to Francisco Huidobro, President of CONFEMADERA, the success of Spanish exports of wood products, with an increase of 19% during the first seven months of the year, show the momentum from the Confederation is being given to activities internationalization and the redoubled efforts of entrepreneurs increase their presence abroad and thereby address the weak domestic demand.The Export Sector Plan Articles of Wood is funded by the Government of Spain through the Spanish Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX).
Imports
By regions, Catalonia leads imports of wood products, with € 159.3 million in purchases from abroad and a decrease of 8.3% over the previous year.Here are placed Valencia (127 million €, -7.5%) and Madrid (98.9 million €, -8.9%).
As for the origin of imports of wood products, Portugal returns to position itself as a leading supplier of our country, with € 124.1 million, followed by France with € 105.7 million, and Germany (71.4 million €).
Regarding the origin of regional imports of wood products (excluding furniture), France with 10.5 million euros, China, with 3.9 million euros, Germany (3.8 million €) and Austria (3.1 € million) top the list.
For destinations, France became the main trading partner of Basque companies of the wood (excluding furniture), with purchases totaling 18.8 million euros, followed by the Netherlands (2.2 million €), Portugal ( € 2.1 million) and UK (1.3 million €).In this case, the products imported by Basque companies are wood sawn or chipped lengthwise (8.9 million €), the joinery and carpentry work for the construction (7.7 million €), timber (4 , 1 million €) and wood fiber boards (2.5 million euros).
Products sector of the wood exported from the Basque country between January and July 2011 were the plywood (12.4 million €), particle boards (€ 9.4 million), other articles of wood (3 3 million €), and densified wood in blocks, plates, strips or profile (2.7 million €).
Basque Autonomy sixth most export
The Basque Country is in the first seven months of the year as the sixth most export Autonomy wood industry (excluding furniture), with 35.7 million in foreign sales and an increase of 49.3% over the same period 2010.As for imports of wood products in the community, there were 38.1 million euros, down 13.1% over the previous year.
