Madrid, November 10, 2010.
Furthermore, when the consumer shopping attaches more importance to a manufacturing-friendly environment variables such as price, or type of wood species, design, with more weight in the furniture sector, for example , windows, doors, wooden or parquet-making in Spain or the Spanish origin of wood, although this response is due more to the social pressure of the dominant values that consistent with observed consumption patterns.According to the study, whose main objective was to determine the degree of knowledge, evaluation and purchase intention of Spanish consumers of wood products with a guarantee of sustainable origin, about 90% were willing to pay slightly more for a wood product if their development is environmentally friendly and ensures the future of forests.- The Spanish Confederation of Wood (CONFEMADERA) today published the findings of the study on the perception of the stock of certified wood products, developed under the project 'Green and Wood Shop, with funding Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs.
Consumers very often associated with terms of wood as renewable, recyclable and environmentally friendly, but only 12.1% of Spanish knows that the forest area in Spain has increased in the last ten years, and still one of every three observed incidence negative correlation with the purchase of wood and forest conservation, which is unaware that the sustainable use of its resources is the best guarantee for the future of them.
The survey, conducted on a sample of Spanish consumers over a thousand casts are other interesting facts about the most valued aspects when purchasing wood products, such as the sensory component, because this material is associated with attributes such as warm and healthy, but not both modernity and innovation, as the sector is still considered traditional.
However, in this sense, consumption forecasts are good, because 22.3% of consumers stated that certified products will elect their next purchases. This research has also shown very low level of awareness of sustainable forest management certificates in Spain, as only 10.1% of the population claims to know one of the two seals with greater development in our country, certificates PEFC and FSC.Only 2.4% of the population is able to correctly identify its meaning and only 1.1% of the population has ever purchased a product with one of these stamps, which can be considered anecdotal consumption. As for forecasting consumer buying Spanish in 2011, it is lower for wood products with a long shelf life and therefore carry a more extensive replacement in time, so demand will focus on the wooden decorative items (45% of consumers buy in the next year), DIY wood items (26.5%) and home furnishings (24.6%).
The effects of the global economic crisis in the sector of wood and furniture are reflected in the fact that 58% of the population has postponed the purchase of furniture or carrying out reform at home as a result.
