Africa replaces Eastern Europe as emerging destination Valencian furniture

Exports from the Comunitat sector fell by 26.5% through June, six points higher than the national average

Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, Algeria and Angola strengthen their potential compradorEl Valencian furniture undergoes a crisis as anyone, and you can even say, looking at the export figures during the first half of this year, that is, along with the signatures of Madrid, the furniture exporting region where more is being accused of spending cuts when buying interior.Furniture exports from Comunitat fell by 26.5% from January to June, six points higher than the national average.

After decades leading sales abroad, the Valencian furniture exporter continues to lose market share leadership against Catalan.

In Catalonia, exports declined by 17% over the first half of 2008, an average reduction of less than Spanish, which allows the Catalan furniture to capture a share of more than one third of all product that leaves the borders of Spain.Valencian firms have been gradually losing importance in the national furniture export volume (in the first half of 2008 accounted for 22.7% of sales) and January to June this year achieved a 21% share.

France remains a great distance, the main destination of exports of furniture in Valencia.
The countries of Eastern Europe also continue to prefer the product of the Comunitat catologo against the rest of the national, so that during the first half of this year 62% of Spanish sales to Russia bearing the signature of Valencian companies, while a year before the reported percentage was 55% of the total.

From the National Association of Exporters of Spanish Furniture Industries (Anieme) he notes that African countries have joined as vibrant destinations for the offer from Valencia.
However, the increase of favoritism that Russians have for the furniture of the Comunitat does not increase sales, because the crisis has also been installed in countries that had become emerging markets with high spending power.
"In December we will conduct a trade mission to Angola, a country where the Comunitat firms have managed to sell a lot of material," says Bertomeu Amparo, director of Anieme.
Valencian exports of the sector during the first half of the year have fallen in almost all its destinations. Only items were saved for UAE and Equatorial Guinea.A year ago, a company Carlet, Alpuche Furniture, won the contract to furnish by 1.8 million 12 floors of offices in Angola. During last June, Nigeria became the eighth destination for furniture export value of the Comunitat.
Among the visitors of Ideas and Passion, the trade show that focuses Spanish furniture supply, sources say Anieme guests have arrived from Africa. The latter country, together with Morocco, Algeria and Angola have become emerging markets, including emergency action on a crisis that affects everyone.

"These are countries with obvious difficulties, but they are large fortunes, many of them accumulated in recent years, which have a consumer purchasing power and remarkable," says Bertomeu.
